While real estate comprises 44 percent of the total U.S. net worth, only two percent of the gifts given to charities is made in the form of real estate. The reason that charities are reluctant to accept land and real estate (improved and unimproved) is because of the legal complexities and risks involved.
To address this, the SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY COMMUNITY FOUNDATION has created the REAL ESTATE FOUNDATION OF SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, a separate public benefit corporation. The purpose of the Real Estate Foundation is to facilitate the sale of donated real estate, from anywhere in the United States, in order to pass the net proceeds of that sale on to San Luis Obispo County charities designated by the donor.
